Short Walks in the Churn Valley

Bookmark and Share

One of the most enjoyable aspects of living and working here in the Churn Valley is the convenience of being able to set off walking for an hour or two in any direction along a network of footpaths, bridleways and country lanes.

As regular readers of Parish Link magazine will know, throughout 2019 our Editor, Corinna Bramley, made space for a series of articles describing local walks. By the end of the year Parish Link had featured the “Churn Valley Way” (awaiting official recognition) which runs from Seven Springs to Cirencester as well as circular walks in each of our nine parishes. The booklet is available in each parish church and/or by completing an order form.

Several friends and neighbours have asked the Revd Arthur to organise some walks and a plan was devised (below).  The COVID-19 rules currently allow those in the same household to have a daily recreational walk. For those who would like a preview of what to expect, there will be some "virtual walks" (slide shows) over the internet using Zoom. If you'd like to participate just email the Revd Arthur:

21st March                  Elkstone (completed by Ronnie, Carol, Margaret and Arthur)

18th April                    Colesbourne via Zoom slide show available here

9th May                      Stratton via Zoom slide show available here

6th June  10.30am    The Churn Valley Way via Skype slide show

20th June                    Bagendon

18th July                     Rendcomb

15th August                Baunton

19th September          Coberley

17th October              North Cerney

21st November           Cowley

Each walk will start at 10.30am using Zoom.  Once we are through the COVID-19 pandemic we will normally meet at the local parish church and finish off with the option of having a pub lunch.  Everyone is warmly invited.  It helps if everyone is reasonably fit.  There’s no need to reserve a place in advance.  The Revd Arthur is happy to deal with any questions or concerns (contact details are on the home page of this website).
